College and financial aid
Checked against the official websites in September 2026. Each college sets its own deadlines, so always confirm on its site.
FAFSA (federal financial aid), 2027-28
When: Open now (opened Sept. 23, 2026)
Deadline: Final deadline June 30, 2028. File as early as you can.
Covers college costs from July 2027 to June 2028. Some aid runs out, so earlier is better.
New York State TAP grant
When: Right after you finish the FAFSA
Deadline: June 30 of the college year (June 30, 2028). Apply early.
New York residents: use the TAP link at the end of the FAFSA, or apply on the HESC site.
CUNY application
Deadline: Priority deadline: February 1, 2027
The $65 application fee is waived for NYC public school students: choose "Pay Later" and your counselor certifies the waiver.
SUNY application
Deadline: Deadlines vary by campus
Fee waivers are available for eligible students. SUNY Free App Weeks ran Oct. 20 to Nov. 3 last year; 2026 dates TBD.
Early Decision and Early Action
Deadline: Varies by college (often Nov. 1 or Nov. 15)
Check each college's website for its own deadline.
